9 Geological Consequences of the Flood

If the Flood of Genesis is to be believed, then we should expect to see the results of geological consequences of the Flood today. You simply can’t have something like this on a worldwide scale and not expect to see remnants of that event today. Let’s take a look at some of what would have happened during the Flood. And ask yourself, “Does what I see in the world today make sense in light of the global Flood of Genesis?” Let’s take a look at 9 geological consequences of the Flood.

1. Global upheaval of the earth’s crust

What do you think would happen if the crust of the earth was suddenly and irreparably torn up? We already know that local earthquakes can cause tremendous damage. The Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 is a case in point. An estimated 3000 people died, and 30,000 buildings were destroyed. Now imagine this on a global level.

2. Magma release from below the earth’s crust

Again, we don’t have to look too far to see the results of released magma on the earth’s surface. The Big Island of Hawaii is a great place to study this. Magma eruptions are a frequent concern for the residents of the island. Again, what would happen if this was on a world-wide level? Undoubtedly, you could expect not only the destroying of things by the magma overrunning and burning things. You could also expect atmospheric conditions to be affected by the heat that would be generated.

3. Catastrophic pressure released when the crust cracked

This pressure could have sent things on the surface of the earth skyrocketing. Trees, rocks, houses, anything on the surface could have become a prospective projectile.

4. Catastrophic release of water

Flooding is the obvious result here. And this flooding was of such a magnitude that nothing was left alive on the surface of the earth. Only Noah and his family and the animals on the ark survived this massive flooding.

5. Massive sediments torn up and washed around

Take a jar and put several types of sediments in it. Add water to cover the mixture, and screw a lid on it, and then give it a good shake! This is much like what would have happened during this phase of the Flood. Whatever was original on the face of the earth would have been forever mixed up in a grand slurry of sediments. And, specifically, just like in the jar, eventually everything would settle down and create layers that would harden into sedimentary rock.

6. The building of seamounts on what would become the ocean floor

Seamounts are volcanoes that form in the ocean. And these seamounts can and do continue to erupt even today.

7. Global, catastrophic movement of huge rock formations causing change in rocks from heat and friction

This would be the cause of metamorphic rocks, rocks created by heat and friction. Many of these rocks are useful to us today. Slate and marble are two metamorphic rocks that we use in many applications.

8. Sudden release of radioactivity through the cracks in the earth’s crust

Radioactivity is a fascinating subject. The release of radioactivity would have created immense amounts of heat. It has many uses that are quite positive, like in nuclear power. But it also has tremendous power for harm, including exposure to radioactivity through medical procedures and nuclear armaments.

9. The global creation of hypercanes (catastrophic hurricanes)

We have all seen the power of hurricanes in the recent past. Not only do they create dangerous weather, but this weather unleashes power to destroy homes, businesses, even entire communities. The meteorological forces behind a global flood would have multiplied this effect, resulting in hypercanes.

These are just 9 geological consequences of the Flood. And the results of all of these are readily seen in our world today. You only have to look around at the various landforms to see the truth of this. From canyons to mountains to volcanoes, all of these show the evidence of catastrophic formation. And the book of Genesis explains very well how this all could have happened.

Genesis 7:11 says, In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.
