8 More Geological Consequences of the Flood

Let’s take a look at 8 more geological consequences of the Flood. The more that we study these, the more apparent it becomes that the Flood of Genesis is the best explanation for what we see geologically in our world today. So here we go, starting with number 10!

10. Billions of sea and land animals disarticulated and buried

Have you ever been rockhounding or fossil hunting in the Midwest? You will find fossil remains of billions of creatures, buried in limestone, covering thousands of square miles. Moreover, they were trapped simultaneously. Why? There is only one answer that satisfies the evidence found in the field. Rapid burial caused by a catastrophic flood easily explains this.

11. Chemical conditions created for rapid petrification

You may have been taught that petrification (sometimes called fossilization) requires long amounts of time, like millions of years. We now know that petrification requires only the right chemical environment, and can take place in a very short amount of time. The Bible teaches us that the world is about 6000 years old. This is more than enough time to create fossils. In fact, petrification can take place in as little as a week. 

12. Rapid creation of geological formations like the Grand Canyon, and caves

Moving water has amazing power! And in our own lifetimes we have been able to see the destructive power of water. For example, when Mt. St. Helens erupted in 1981, a large canyon formed in a matter of hours from the lahar from the volcanic debris. And more recently, a hurricane was responsible for terrible destruction in North Carolina. The landscape was changed forever: rivers were re-routed, and river banks were altered and widened, permanently changing the landscape. So when we think of the creation of canyons, such as Grand Canyon, it is easy to imagine that the time needed to create it was not as long as we have been led to believe.

Caves, likewise, don’t require vast amounts of time to form. Carved limestone creates most caves. Much of this limestone is fossil limestone. If the Flood of Genesis is taken into account as a real event, then you are talking about billions of creatures that are buried in a very short amount of time in limestone. The remains of these creatures would have contributed to a high acid content. Acid is necessary to carve limestone. These unusual acidic conditions (caused by decaying sea animals) would have caused the initial carving out of a cave. Today, only very weak acid from the combination of carbon dioxide and water continues the carving at a slower pace. The high levels of acid have disappeared. But given the conditions brought about by the Flood, the carving out of caves in the past would have been very fast.  

13. Minerals and metals mixed with Flood sediments creating sources for future mining

Minerals and metals are not evenly dispersed around the world. They are found chiefly in pockets. We look for turquoise in Arizona and Nevada, for example, but not in Massachusetts! Alaska and Idaho have silver mines. Missouri does not! Again, a flood would easily explain this.

14. An abundance of silica from volcanoes creating an ideal environment for mineralization

Silica is a by-product of volcanoes. And mineralization requires silica. These volcanoes would have to erupt at roughly the same time as when the different creatures were dying in order for them to be mineralized.

15. Huge deposits of plant material, creating coal beds

A catastrophic flood could easily move plants in this quantity, and bury them. And coal beds come from these buried plants.

16. Compression of animal remains, creating pockets of crude oil

The Flood of Genesis also can easily explain animals buried en masse, under massive sedimentary deposits. And the result would be large pockets of crude oil.

17. Pushing up of mountain ranges and batholiths, like the massive granite batholith around Butte, Montana

The Bible explains that at the end of the Flood, the Lord lifted the mountains (Psalm 104:7). The waters ran off, creating our oceans. The explanation is very satisfying, as it easily explains what we see in our world. Nobody knows just how long this took. But to say that it took millions of years requires one to have evidence, and no evidence exists to support that. What we do have is a recorded history of that period of time, found in the Bible.

When we look around our world, the evidence is clear that something happened to our world, and it was catastrophic. And as is usually the case, the simplest explanation is often the best explanation! Our reliable history book, the Bible, is very clear. What we see in our world today lines up with that narrative: a flood that destroyed all mankind, and most of the creatures of the earth.
